Sony can’t have a press conference these days without people complaining about The Last Guardian’s continued absence, so here’s another predictably timed statement from the game’s director that yes, the game is still in development, and no, he doesn’t have any new details about the game to announce.
“It’s under earnest development,” director Fumito Ueda told Famitsu (translation via Polygon.) “However, SCE Japan Studio, who’s working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now.”
The Last Guardian has been in development at Sony’s Japan Studio ever since 2007. The game has been plagued by frequent delays and several high-level staff departures (Ueda himself quit Sony awhile back, and has stayed on the Last Guardian development team as an outside contractor.) The game was originally supposed to be released in 2011.
You can read more of Ueda’s comments, including his thoughts on how his older games (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus,) have influenced modern game design, over at Polygon.
