Sony’s Gamescom press conference hasn’t even begun yet, but somebody jumped the gun on the official Playstation website and has confirmed what we’ve all suspected for a long time now: the PS Vita is finally getting a much needed price drop, down to a more a reasonable $199.
Sony is expected to formally announce the price cut at their Gamescom press conference, which is scheduled to begin in just a few minutes. Though the press conference hasn’t begun yet, this image briefly showed up on the official Playstation website’s front page, giving us our first official confirmation that the oft-rumored price cut was finally happening:
The image suggests that the 3G version of the system (which was previously $299,) has had its price slashed by a third, and will now be bundled with a copy of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead.
Rumors of a price-cut first began circulating a few weeks ago, when a leaked Target ad listed both the 3G and Wi-Fi versions of the system for $199. Since then, Amazon, Best Buy, and several other retailers have preemptively dropped the price of both versions of the system down to $199 as well.
