Predictably, the first Ace Attorney DLC is about proving a whale’s innocence

Predictably, the first Ace Attorney DLC is about proving a whale’s innocence

Michael Lacerna 25 Jul

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies comes out in Japan today, and while most players haven’t even finished the main story yet, Capcom is already getting ready to release the first (of hopefully many) downloadable bonus chapters that expand the game with extra cases. The first DLC chapter is… well, about as normal as one of Phoenix Wright’s cases get: Wright is tasked with proving in the innocence of an orca whale in a murder investigation. Yes, that’s right, your client is a whale, because why not?

The new chapter is entitled “Special Chapter: Turnabout Return,” and the story of the case will reportedly tie in with the stories from Apollo Justice and one of the cases from Trials and Tribulations, which focused on Phoenix’s first court case. For reasons I can’t explain, Phoenix is forced to defend an orca whale against murder charges: as with his human clients, he’ll need to prove the whale’s innocence while tracking down the real murderer. Also for reasons I can’t explain, the whale has a mustache and a pirate hat.

Capcom hasn’t announced a release date or pricing for the DLC chapter yet, but bonus costumes for the game’s three three characters — which include Phoenix’s suit from the original GBA/DS games, some casual attire for Apollo, and a schoolgirl uniform for Athena (because Japan) — are available now to owners of the Japanese version for free.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies will be released on the 3DS e-Shop in North America and Europe later this Fall.
