Namco Bandai put up two countdown pages on their Japanese website yesterday. As usual, the teaser pages are pretty cryptic, but we do know two things for sure: one of the games that Namco is teasing is being made for the 3DS, while the other game is being developed by the same team that made the Ace Combat series.
The first teaser site simply says that its a “New title for 3DS.” The image in the background shows a series of glossy black shapes, and the only other clues that Namco has given us are the phrases “V 20” and “F 30.” Usually these teasers give you hint at what series the new game is in or who’s developing it, but I’m completely at a loss this time; guess we’ll have to wait until the 4 days left on the clock run out before we find out what Namco is teasing.
The other teaser is a little less mysterious: the site is labelled as “Project ACES – New Title,” which suggests that the announcement of a new Ace Combat title is imminent. The teaser site originally said “The day our sky fell, the heavens split to create new skies,” but has since been updated to say “Here comes the third strike!” Not sure what they’re hinting at there, but perhaps its a reference to some older game in the series?
The last Ace Combat game released was 2011’s Assault Horizon, which ditched the series’ traditional arcade style gameplay in favor of a more linear structure with a focus on scripted events and set-pieces. Assault Horizon wasn’t really well received by fans, so here’s hoping they take the series in a different direction with the new title.
