As the world anxiously awaits the release of Rockstar’s latest entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, the studio has done a solid job building hype for the game whilst simultaneously showing nothing in the way of gameplay footage. In their most recent installment of the Q&A session called Asked & Answered, the team discussed a few facts about what to expect from Grand Theft Auto V. In particular, the mention that the game will require a mandatory install on both consoles before players can get started.
“Grand Theft Auto V is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power available in the current generation of consoles,” Rockstar told fans. “In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 systems.” Specifically, GTAV will require an 8GB install on both consoles upon initial startup.
Getting into a bit more detail about the Xbox 360 version, Rockstar explained why the game is releasing on two discs. “Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game. After the install, players will be able to enjoy both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online without any need to switch discs.” Not needing to switch discs at any point during the experience is a welcome change for those accustomed to purchasing multi-disc titles on XB360.
As mentioned earlier, a gameplay trailer has yet to be released, and the studio has been equally coy about details surrounding Grand Theft Auto Online. Fans looking for their first glimpse at either will have to hold out just a bit longer, but Rockstar assures that footage of both in action will debut later this summer.
As a final point, Rockstar additionally addressed lingering fan concerns that GTAV could potentially be delayed, stating that the game is on track for a September 17 release on both PS3 and Xbox 360. The studio has yet to make any announcements concerning a release for either PC or next-gen consoles.
