So, Dragon Ball Z is pretty cool, right? My generation grew up with the animated cartoon absolutely dominating the Toonami scene, and I’m pretty sure everyone pretends to throw a kamehameha from time to time. (Be honest, you’ve looked at the Kinect tracker in the corner of the screen and pretended the glowing light when it recognizes your hand was actually an energy ball. We all have.) Well, for those DBZ fans anxiously awaiting a new chapter in the video game series, look no further than this morning’s announcement of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z. Unoriginal titles aside, the game features 4v4-player brawls. Take a look at the debut trailer:
As is apparently obligatory for all DBZ games, at least one segment of the story mode will include Frieza’s campaign. Four-player co-op battles and eight-man fights sound pretty incredible on paper, but I have my reservations about hit detection and wonder if the team can pull off as smooth an experience as they’re imagining. But then again, my grand idea for a DBZ game is an HD, open-world RPG that let’s me create my own Saiyan and ultimately reach Super Saiyan level 4! Wishful thinking, anyway.
While no release date was given, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z is scheduled to launch on the PS3, PS Vita and Xbox 360. For more information, Namco Bandai encourages fans to visit the official Facebook page for DBZ games.
