Scans of the latest issue of Japan’s CoroCoro Magazine have been leaked online, and the new images have revealed a lot about Nintendo’s upcoming next-generation Pokemon.
The scans say that the new game is set in the country of Karos, a region of the Pokemon world that is modeled after France. The previous Pokemon generation, Black and White, featured a region that was inspired by America (specifically New York City,) while earlier games in the series had locations that were based on regions of Japan.
The scans also reveal four new Pokemon: Gogoat, a brand new grass-type that resembles a goat, Yayakoma, a new bird Pokemon that looks like it’ll be this generation’s version of Pidgey, a new electric-type lizard (whose name is unfortunately obscured in the scans,) and Yanchamu, a fighting-type panda Pokemon. The new Pokemons’ names will probably be changed when the game comes out in the US.
Unlike earlier games in the series, which featured predefined player characters, Pokemon X and Y will let players customize the appearance of their player avatars; while the CoroCoro article doesn’t go into the specifics, it does say that players will at least be able to adjust their trainers’ hair style and skin color.
The Pokemon Company has been teasing a big announcement regarding new Pokemon X/Y info on the May 19th episode of Pokmon Smash, a weekly TV variety/news program dedicated to Pokemon; it’s unknown if the information contained in these CoroCoro scans is the same as the big news that they’ve been teasing.
Pokemon X and Y, the first fully 3D entries in Nintendo’s biggest cash cow, are scheduled to be released worldwide this October.
