Airtight Games has just announced their latest game, Soul Fjord, a dungeon crawler/rhythm game hybrid that mixes Norse mythology with funky disco music.
Soul Fjord will feature randomly generated dungeons and a combat system that’s based around rhythm-based button presses, similar to a music game. The game’s main character is Magnus Jones, a recently deceased disco-dancing warrior who has to fight (and dance) his way into Valhalla.
Soul Fjord is the latest project headed up by Portal creator Kim Swift. Swift and Airtight Games released their first game, the physics-based puzzler Quantum Conundrum, a few months ago to mostly positive reviews. With Quantum Conundrum, Swift and her team have already demonstrated that they’re capable of creating Portal-style puzzle games, so it’s interesting to see them branch out and try something different with Soul Fjord.
Soul Fjord will be released exclusively for the Ouya. No price or release date have been announced yet, but Airtight Games promises more info on the new game is coming soon.
Ouya, the $99 “indie” console, is still scheduled to be released at retail on June 4th. The system has been met with a mixed reaction from press and its own Kickstarter backers alike (who received early versions of the console as a reward for backing the initial Ouya pitch,) but Ouya’s developers promise that the system’s kinks will be ironed out before it’s official launch.
