Like Halo but hate paying for Xbox Live Gold? Well, if you live in the US, Canada, Japan, or Latin America, you’re in luck.
The latest “Free Weekend” for Xbox Live will start today at 7 a.m. and will last until 10 a.m. PST on Monday morning. This means that Xbox Live Free or Silver members will gain access to all of Xbox Live Gold’s content, including the use of apps like Netflix and HBO Go, as well as the ability to play games online.
To capitalize on the influx of new players expected this weekend, Far Cry 3, Assassins’ Creed 3, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will all offer double XP rewards throughout the weekend. Borderlands 2 players can also enter the following Shift Key at the game’s Extras menu in order to gain some new rare gear: KTW3T-ZXXS5-JBSJF-5FJT3-6TB9X. The Shift Key will only be valid during the Free Weekend, so make sure you use it within the next few days.
I let my Gold subscription expire a few weeks ago (I also own a PS3 and a PC, so I have free alternatives if I want to play online,) but I have to admit, I really miss playing Halo 4 CTF all night, so I’ll definitely try to make the most of this weekend. Look for me online: I’ll be the guy teabagging your corpse after I headshot you from the air using the DMR and a jetpack.
