As promised, the Pokemon Company gave fans another look at the upcoming Pokemon X and Y this weekend by revealing a brand new Pokemon that has a strong resemblance to one of the original generation’s most famous legendaries.
The brand new Pokemon is clearly related to Mew and Mewtwo from the Generation I Pokemon games, though it’s currently unknown if this new legendary evolves from one of those Pokemon, or if he’s his own species. His attack animations look very similar to Mewtwo’s, so it’s probably safe to assume that he’s still a Psychic type. More details about this new Pokemon are going to be revealed in the next Pokemon movie, Extremespeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens, which will be released in Japanese theaters in July.
Pokemon X and Y was originally revealed earlier this year during a Nintendo Direct livestream. X and Y will be the first handheld Pokemon games to be rendered entirely in 3D. As with previous Pokemon sequels, X and Y will feature a brand new selection of cute, cuddly monsters to brutally beat down and enslave. Both versions of the game will launch on the Nintendo 3DS this October.
