Today Amazon accidentally revealed the existence of the previously unannounced Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut for Wii U. The online retailer put up a preorder listing for the game this morning (which has since been taken down,) giving us our first look at the new version of the game.
According to Amazon, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut will launch in North America on May 7th. The game will reportedly feature new improvements and additional content over earlier versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and will use the Wii U’s touchpad to control a new Wii U exclusive augmentation called the “Neural Net.”
Australian studio Straight Right, who previously ported Mass Effect 3 over to the Wii, announced a few months ago that they were busy porting a “Triple A Square-Enix” title over to Nintendo’s latest console as well. It’s safe to assume that this Director’s Cut is the title that they were hinting at.
The last thing the Wii U needs right now is more ports of 2 year old current-gen games, but it’s hard to complain about getting another excuse to replay Deus Ex: Human Revolution again. Human Revolution was one of my favorite games of 2011, and here’s hoping that this “Director’s Cut” actually takes advantage of the Wii U’s unique features and isn’t simply a half-assed cash grab. At the very least, it might be a good chance to re-familiarize yourself with Deus Ex’s world before Square officially announces its oft-rumored sequel.
