Anyone who was playing PC games back in 1993 probably still remembers Trilobyte’s horror themed adventure game, The 7th Guest. While the game is probably more funny than scary now thanks to it’s corny FMV custscenes, the game is still one of the more fondly remembered titles from that era, and Trilobyte is hoping to recapture the original game’s magic with their upcoming sequel, entitled The 7th Guest: 3.
The 7th Guest:3 is set in the same haunted mansion as the original game, but will feature a new story, new puzzles, and a completely 3D representation of the classic setting. Speaking to Polygon, Trilobyte’s Charlie McHenry explained more about the new game’s story: “You will learn more about what happened on that terrible night, and discover the real story and previously hidden secrets of the gaming world’s most mysterious toymaker.”
The new game is being staffed by several members of the original game’s development team, and is being made for iOS, Android, PC and Mac. McHenry says that The 7th Guest: 3 should be ready for release within the next 12-18 months. The Trilobyte team is considering funding the game via Kickstarter if they can’t find any traditional investors to back the project.
And now, just for old times sake, here’s the original (laughable) opening to the 7th Guest, which totally scared the crap out of me for some reason when I was 7 years old:
