Rumor: Capcom Plans to Announce Two New Games at PAX East

Rumor: Capcom Plans to Announce Two New Games at PAX East

Vincent Parisi 28 Feb

For those of you that will be joining me at PAX East next month, we are in for a special surprise. According to examiner.com, we have an official description for Capcom’s annual “World of Capcom” panel. Here’s the scoop:

“Moderator Francis Mao (CAPCOM) leads a panel of Capcom’s producers and product managers to share the latest details on all the upcoming Capcom games such as Remember Me, Lost Planet 3, Resident Evil: Revelations, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, two NEW product announcements, and more! Up to 1,000 fans will walk away with a free gift, so this is a panel you definitely do not want to miss!”

Did you see that part at the end? You know, the one about the two new unannounced products? Unfortunately, there’s not even a little hint of what these two projects could be, or for that matter what platforms they’ll be releasing for, so let the speculation begin! The panel takes place on Friday, March 22 at noon in The Phoenix Room. (Remember to pack short sleeves and sun block… but seriously don’t do that. It’s Boston in March, are you nuts?

Additionally, Capcom confirmed the list of games they will have available for play at their booth on the show floor. They include:

  • Remember Me
  • Lost Planet 3
  • Resident Evil: Revelations
  • Darkstalkers Resurrection
  • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Capcom Arcade Cabinet
  • Two new unannounced titles

Now, since the official PAX site has yet to update their official schedule for the event next month, we still have to take this as a rumor, but I think it’s safe to get excited.

The Penny Arcade Expo East, or PAX East, is an annual convention held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. This year, the event will be held from March 22-24. For more information, you can check out the history of PAX here, or just read this snippet of their humble origins:

“In 2004, the folks at Penny Arcade decided they wanted a show exclusively for gaming. Sure, comics, anime, and other nerd hobbies were cool, and those activities all had their own shows… so what about games? From that idea spawned a small 4,500 person event in Bellevue, Washington, focused on the culture and community that is gaming.

Since then, the show hasn’t looked back. Doubling in size each year until venue capacities were reached, in 2010 the show expanded into Boston for PAX East, drawing tens of thousands of attendees in the inaugural year. The shows in Seattle and Boston represent the two largest gaming events in North America!”

So, what do you folks think these announcements might entail? If I had to take an educated guess, I’d say something Mega Man related might be on the horizon. If I had to make an absolute out-of-left-field dream guess, I’d probably hope for news on a new Strider game. But that’s just me. I’m sure plenty of fans are looking for news of a new Darkstalkers release, now that Darkstalkers Resurrection is set to reinvigorate their love for the franchise. Feel free to list your own legitimate or wacky ideas for what Capcom might announce in the comments below. Don’t be afraid to get creative! You never know who might be reading…

About The Author

Vincent Parisi

I guess I'm the typical, modern day nerd. I was raised right on Batman: TAS and old-school TMNT. I've been a core gamer since I was 2 years old (I was beating Mario before I could finish sentences) and haven't thought twice about it since. My favorite game genre is RPG for sure. I love the advent of channels like Nerdist and Geek and Sundry, and will never turn down an invitation to a Con. (Though I don't cosplay... yet.) I hate not owning the latest and greatest gadgets and aspire to find my place in the world of game journalism. Favorite Games: The Mass Effect trilogy, Super Mario World, the BioShock series, the Ratchet and Clank series, anything featuring Nolan North. Favorite shows: FireFly (Browncoats, unite!), Bones, Castle, Spectacular Spider-Man (RIP), Transformers Prime. Anything featuring the voice talents of Steve Blum, Gina Torres, Ashley Johnson, or Yuri Lowenthal. Favorite Comics: Amazing Spider-Man (Thanks for the memories), most things featuring Batman, any one where Green Arrow makes an appearance.
