Rockstar has just announced that Grand Theft Auto V will be released this September. This is a few months later than the game’s original “Spring” launch date, but Rockstar says they need the additional time to polish and refine the highly anticipated sequel.
In a statement posted on the official GTA website, a representative from Rockstar explained the reasoning behind the delay:
“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”
Personally, I don’t mind the delay. To paraphrase something that legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Mario and Zelda,) once said, “A late game is only late until it comes out. A bad game is a bad game forever.” I’d rather Rockstar take their time with GTA V rather than rush it out the door unfinished. While waiting the extra few months for GTA V is definitely going to be hard, I’d rather get an amazing game later rather than a bad game now.
Grand Theft Auto V will be released for the PS3 and the Xbox 360 on September 17th, 2013.
