While it’s doubtful that the world will actually end tomorrow, perhaps the Mayan prophecy was simply talking about how devastated your bank account is going to be after the latest Steam Sale. Steam’s infamous deep discounts are back, showering gamers with savings and impulse buys, sort of like how the Mayan lightning serpent Quatzalcoatl is supposed to shower us all with pain and destruction tomorrow.
Today’s highlights from the sale include the 2008 Prince of Persia reboot for a paltry $2.49 (I actually really love that game, and if you have even the faintest interest in platformers, it’s worth picking up,) DICE’s first person free-runner Mirror’s Edge for $5, Scribblenauts Unlimited for $20, Wargames: European Escalation for $10, and every game in the Hitman series has received discounts of at least 50%, including the recently released Hitman: Absolution, which has been marked down to a reasonable $24.99.
In addition to the usual daily deals, Steam will be running quick “flash sales” throughout the day, so keep refreshing that Steam homepage for new discounts. Current flash sales include 75% off of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City and their assorted DLC’s, as well as Fable 3 for $12.49.
The current Steam sale will run a bit longer than the usual week long sales, as new offers will be put up starting from today until January 5th.
