Microsoft has finally released more details on their second Surface device called the Surface Pro. This laptop-tablet device will be running on Windows 8 Pro and will feature more powerful hardware specifications compared to the Surface RT which runs on Windows RT. The price of the Surface Pro starts at $899 for the 64 GB version and $999 for the 128 GB version. On the outside the Pro is quite similar to the recently released RT. It uses the same VaporMG casing with kickstand and has the same screen size. The only difference is what’s inside both devices. One advantage the Pro has is that you will be able to install your favorite Windows based applications on it.
Because the Surface Pro is more powerful it consumes more battery power. Microsoft said that the Pro will be getting half the battery life of the RT. The RT usually lasts between 8-10 hours before needing a recharge so expect the Pro to last in the vicinity of 4-5 hours.
The device will ship out with a Surface Pen but won’t include a Touch or Type Cover. You will have to shell out $100 to get this accessory.
As far as the release date goes the only indication on Microsoft’s site is a January 2013 release with no exact day provided.
