Black Friday is rapidly approaching, but you don’t have to fight your way through the mulleted crowds at Wal-Mart to pick up some cheap games next weekend: Amazon is also having a week long sale that rivals a lot of the bargains you can get at traditionally brick and mortar stores, and you won’t have risk your life to get them.
The festivities begin on Monday, when games like Dragon’s Dogma ($39.99) and King of the Fighters XII ($19.99) both receive slight discounts. On Tuesday, 3DS launch titles Steel Diver and Nintendogs + Cats both get discounted to$4.99 and $9.99 respectively, while the excellent Sly Cooper Collection for PS3 also gets knocked down to a paltry 10 bucks. I cannot emphasize how good of a deal that Collection is: you’re basically getting 3 of last gen’s best platformers for a few dollars each. Highlights from Wednesday include Lumines Electric Symphony for the Vita for $15, and the collector’s edition of Prototype 2 for $30.
The sale really becomes worth it on Thanksgiving day, when Amazon starts slashing the prices on a few of the more popular games of the year, like Darksiders 2 ($29.99,) Dishonored ($24.99,) and the starter kit for Skylanders Giants (about $39.) Capcom’s recently released Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Box also sees a substantial price cut down to $100, and slightly older titles like Skyrim, the original Black Ops, Mass Effect 2, and Batman: Arkham Asylum are all having their prices cut down to bargain-bin levels. The sale continues on after Thanksgiving into Black Friday itself, when the latest SSX, the excellent Spec-Ops:The Line, and Max Payne 3 get discounted down to about fifteen bucks each.
As always, these deals are expected to sell out fast, so check out Amazon’s Black Friday page for the specifics as to when each deal goes up, as well as a full list of the discounted titles on sale.
