A few days ago Konami and Kojima Productions shocked attendees at the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary party by debuting the next game in the series, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes. The video was originally an exclusive treat for people at the event, but now Konami has uploaded the video onto Youtube for everyone to enjoy. Watch it after the jump:
As you can see for yourself, the game is absolutely beautiful — Konami has already stated that this is a game for “current consoles,” but that’s almost hard to believe after watching the trailer myself: outside of a few blocky elements, it easily looks next-gen.
The trailer on Youtube doesn’t show as much gameplay as was originally shown at the Anniversary Event several days ago: attendees described parts of the game where Snake (or more accurately, Big Boss, I guess,) had to crawl through the mud to avoid searchlights and steal a jeep in order to travel across the game’s supposedly massive open-world, both sections of which reportedly happen after the point where the Youtube trailer cuts off.
Every new Metal Gear game is an event, and while I’ve certainly enjoyed most of the past entries in the series, I didn’t think the announcement of the next “real” Metal Gear would get me this excited, but I’m seriously hyped for Ground Zeroes. The game is currently scheduled to be released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC sometime next year.
