If you are anything like me you are about 6 feet tall and have been playing games for more than 20 years. If you are not like me, which is going to be most of you, then you are the opposite and this post might not mean that much to you in the first place. It appears that Microsoft is about to release some “free-to-play” games for those of us that are lucky enough to own the most popular gaming console on the planet. That’s right, I said it, the most popular gaming console on the planet is the Xbox 360 and since I have had the pleasure of owning one for about 5 years or more now, it sure is nice to see the system still evolving with the times.
This week, Microsoft is outlining the details behind these free-to-play games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. MIcrosoft has been sitting on this gem for a while now, so it is nice to be able to hear a little more information regarding the new gaming feature. A couple of games are going to be put into the “free to play” status and include the Happy Wars game from Toylogic and the Ascend: New Gods from Signal Studios.
Microsoft is planning to put these games out there as “free to play” for the Live Gold subscribers, but they will leverage the Microsoft Points System as well. The company has always looked for small ways they can expand and push out to the edges of the gaming world bringing these popular games to the console for free play is one way they can do that for sure.
I know that some of you are freaking out right now because Sony actually got their crap together first by offering Free Realms and DC Universe Online as “free-to-play” games on the PS3 last year, but who cares who got there first right? As long as the games are still fun to play and they keep the attention of 10 year olds, the parents are not going to make a big stink about paying for the Xbox Live Gold subscription every year!
