Two new teaser sites put up by Square-Enix this week seem to indicate that they’re developing sequels to two of their games: one of them is a cult classic that fans have been waiting for for years, and the other is another sequel to a game that most people never liked in the first place.
The first teaser site that Square put up is most definitely related to 2007 DS fan favorite The World Ends With You. The site plays music from the original game, and it’s URL address (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/subaseka/) is a shortened version of the game’s original Japanese title “Subarashiki Kono Sekai.” I loved TWEWY, but it might still be early to get your hopes up about a true sequel: knowing Square-Enix, the announcement they’re teasing could easily be for a simple iOS port, some sort of Facebook casual game, or simply an announcement that they’re going to do some sort of series of Play Arts action figures or a concert or something. With that said, I would totally cream my jeans if SE does announce a real TWEWY sequel, and there’s certainly plenty of systems to take the series to: The 3DS is the obvious choice of course, but let’s not forget that the Wii U would be a good fit for the game’s dual-screen battles, and of course, the Vita has a touch screen as well.
In less exciting news, Square is also teasing that they’re probably going to make another sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. It’s not really a surprise given the amount of loose ends that FFXIII-2 ended with, but I still don’t understand Square’s insistence on keeping the XIII brand alive — even on the bizarre, unlikely chance that you actually liked FFXIII, there’s no denying that it’s certainly one of the more… unpopular and divisive entries in the series, and why Square keeps pumping money into making sequels for it instead of creating new games is beyond me. Anyway, Square is promising to release new details about the next entry in “The Lightning Saga” (which I guess is their new name for the XIII series, given that they’ve dropped the “Fabula Nova Crystalis” moniker,) on September 1st.

Just because you didn’t like FFXIII doesn’t mean you have to bash it like this. Many people have tried FFXIII recently and have enjoyed it.
