Every Tuesday I like to take some time to focus on the hardworking and dedicated “YouTubers” within the gaming community. This week features a clip one of YouTube’s strangest casters, Videogamedunkey. I first caught a glimpse of this page a year ago and in that time the channel has gained over 100k subscribers. Featuring mostly League of Legends videos, Dunkey’s channel isn’t like other channels; there are no guides, builds, or walkthroughs, just a guy making people laugh with oddly themed and edited videos. Make no mistake though, not everyone will find these videos funny, in fact some won’t even understand why they were made in the first place, but those that do will be rewarded with running gags and inside jokes throughout most of his videos.
The video above is his most popular video with the exception of his guide to girls which outlines how to identify female players in a game of LoL. Obviously there’s no real “best” champion in a game like LoL, but that hasn’t stopped many from drafting vast forum posts on the subject. The joke in the video is pretty clear; when people lose they usually assume the champion they selected is the problem and not their playing, tactics, or build.
Many of his videos are like this, seemingly odd and random, but with some form of clever commentary about LoL or its community. Ok, not every video has a point, some are just weird, but the ones that do are sometimes surprisingly poignant if you can get past the weirdness.
If you’re interested, I recommend you watch Dunkey’s videos in the order in which they were released to keep up with all of his inside jokes. You may not find all of them funny, but most people I’ve shown it to end up hitting that subscribe button as soon as they find one that agrees with them. The one that got put me in stitches was his faux Ziggs Patch Spotlight.
