Amazon kicks off a month of digital game sales with Max Payne 3, Spec Ops: The Line

Amazon kicks off a month of digital game sales with Max Payne 3, Spec Ops: The Line

Michael Lacerna 01 Jul

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you have to go outside like a chump: you should stay in and play games by yourself like all the cool kids. You’ll save yourself from the crowds at the beach, get to avoid all the bro’s at the bar, you’ll lower your chances of contracting skin cancer and now, thanks to Amazon, you’ll probably save some money too.

Amazon is trying to cut into Steam’s lucrative digital game sales by offering deep discounts that should get even the most frugal of gamers to open up their wallets. Amazon promises that they’ll have new sales throughout the entire month of July, and their first wave of specials went up today.

The most notable games in the sale are Rockstar’s Max Payne 3 for $30, and the recently released Spec Ops: The Line for $25. Other notable discounts include a Civilization 4 and 5 bundle for $12, the Bioshock Dual Pack for $7.50, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for $30.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to activate a lot of these games with another service — most of the games that require an activation use Steam, which isn’t too intrusive with it’s DRM, but a few of the games in the sale require Games for Windows Live or Origin authentication. At least Amazon is nice enough to let you know beforehand which games require you to use a third-party service.

Anyway, there’s lots of deals here for PC gamers, and I’m planning on buying enough games to tide me over until the next Steam sale.
