Still playing the original Demon’s Souls? Well, From Software’s original brutally difficult RPG is about to get a whole lot lonelier, since Atlus announced that the online servers for the game will finally be taken offline on May 31st.
The surprise popularity of Demon’s Souls previously forced Atlus to extend the life of the game’s online features beyond its original shut down date of October 2011, but it seems that time has finally run out for the original Demon’s Souls servers.
You’ll still be able to play the game offline, but features like leaving messages for other players, watching their ghosts, and obviously multiplayer co-op or PvP invasions will no longer be possible. I think most fans of Demon’s Souls have migrated over to it’s spiritual sequel Dark Souls by now, but if you’re still interested in the original, Atlus will be holding two special World Tendency events throughout Demon’s Souls final month online, and they’re inviting all past players to sign on May 31st to give the old game one last hurrah before the servers are shut down permanently.
