The controversies over Mass Effect 3 are heard loud and clear over the internet. If it’s not Tali’s face, then it’s the disappointing ending. However, it’s extremely rare for gamers to actually demand a refund for a game they’ve been let down by. In this day and age where piracy is much more rampant than it was ten or fifteen years ago, refunds are often met with a flat-out “no”. Regardless of this policy’s age, Origin has apparently been doling out refunds for the game.
The user t_i_e_ posted on the Bioware forums that he had received a full refund on Origin for Mass Effect 3, simply by claiming it doesn’t deliver what it has advertised. It is fairly likely he could be trolling, but the louder-than-usual uproars from overly-entitled gamers would have a few publishers scrambling to protect their name.
I’m leaning however towards “trolling”. Even if EA do have good customer service, many gamers will point accusing fingers at them for caring more about their bottom line than their customers, and a meeting of EA’s bigwigs to improve their name would hit the news several times over for weeks on end.
Gamers have been calling for BioWare to give a good ending to the latest entry in the Mass Effect series. Whenever they will deliver or not remains to be seen.
If anyone was able to get a refund for their copy of ME3 because of a degree of broken promises and the rather shoddy ending, post your success story in the comments. If you got laughed at or were told that it was simply a rumor, you know where the comments are.
