As of March 1 the PS Vita has sold over 1.2 Million units, worldwide, according to Sony. It launched in Japan last December and only just made its way to Western shores last month, but it seems that it is already off to a very strong start, but not quite as strong as Nintendo.Software sales across the globe have surpassed 2.0 million units at both retail and on PlayStation®Network.
To put this in perspective of the Vita’s competition, the 3DS, sold 800,000 units in its first month, in Japan alone. And worldwide sales are currently sitting around 7 Million, in terms of hardware sales for the Nintendo handheld, and its only been a little over a year since it launched.
I am excited to see how well the slightly pricier Vita will do over the next year, will a price drop be in its future as well to bring in the sales numbers? only time will tell.
