That’s right, Riot Games’ League of Legends Tribunal has recorded over 16 million reports from players who feel that other players are jerks. Incidents of verbal harassment, feeding, going AFK, and trolling are only a few of the things that can get a person reported using the tribunal. Riot has put together a handy little infographic to outline some of fledgling tribunal’s statistics.
The infographic outlines some of the tribunal’s most impressive accomplishments. The purpose of the tribunal is to give LoL players a chance to report other players for ruining or attempting to ruin games. The system was designed to use the community as a way to weed out unnecessary reports, allowing Riot to only punish those the community deems fit. While the tribunal’s existence might simply be enough to deter some players from being jerks in the first place, the system itself actually has been used to ban some of the more stubborn offenders.
The most surprising statistic, however, is that 50% of all punished players never reoffend. This means, that for those punished, the tribunal has had an actual effect on how some people interact within the game, permanently. Also, the tribunal is pretty good at picking out repeat offenders. Raging for a few games here and there will get you on average 11 reports, while serial ragers see an average of 70.
While only 1.4% of actual cases turn into punishments, it seems as though Riot has found a way to combat the unsportsmanlike conduct that is typical with online play. It’s a pretty balanced combination of community management and player input. And so far, it looks like it is working… a little.

For a second I thought that was all -reported- players.

I did at first as well. I almost started writing about how the Tribunal doesn’t act at all until I realized. O.o
