With some initially positive reviews, it appeared as though Gotham City Impostors might have been able to glide itself towards success. I spent some time with the game last week and agreed that it was a uniquely fun experience. However some players have reported to Joystiq that there is a glitch which resets all previously earned and purchased in-game goods. I really need to stop jinxing the games I write about.
Apparently the glitch occurs in versions of the game upgraded from the trial. This is bad news for GCI, more so than with most titles. See, Monolith had a great idea with their trial; you can download the game and play it for an hour with everyone else, if you like it you can upgrade the trial to the full version. Unfortunately this is the version of the game with the glitch.
Now this is just conjecture, but I’m going to assume that a lot of people, those who bought the game, did so after downloading the trial version. Everyone I know that bought it did so in that way, and the thread on Monolith’s website about the issue is up to 71 pages. The fact that the glitch also wipes out items purchased through the store… yeah, you’re beginning to see the problem.
Hopefully Monolith will remedy the situation soon. In March they are planning on releasing a major balance and content patch, and I’m sure that most impostors would like to know that their homemade batarangs and cardboard masks will remain safe in their lair.

At this rate I’m going to start calling you Aki Higashihara, she has a habit of jinxing anything she writes about.
