This marks a fairly large delay for the mildly-anticipated XCOM, from 2K Marin. Originally planned to be released this March, XCOM has now been pushed back to some unknown time in 2013. The first-person shooter may not fit in with the busy March schedule and this could be a smart financial move.
There seemed to be no reason behind the delay, but it seems there will be an XCOM game to appease fans before the years out. Firaxis is hard at work on XCOM: Enemy Unknown which will be a strategy game, which is more to the roots of what made XCOM popular. This will mark the first Firaxis game not to feature Sid Meier’s name.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set for release this fall exclusively for PC.

The last time I’ve even heard of a delay of this magnitude was back when they were about to release Shinobi 3 on the Genesis. It got delayed for a year and reworked to make a brilliant game. But honestly I don’t see why it took that long.

Don’t forget Duke Nukem, though I’m sure we all wish we could.

Vaporware and development hell doesn’t really count.
