Like most consumers, I have allocated a large amount of my funds to online shopping. It definitely is hard to know if the product you get will be what you actually receive in the mail, which is why I stick to websites that have easy and free returns in case of such an event. It is actually worth it for me to buy something off, say, a Forever 21 website and return it to the store if I hate it.Then I don’t have to awkwardly try on clothes in a changing room the size of a closet, in a strangely lit environment that you would probably never wear that outfit in. With that being said, what I really hate about online shopping is models.
I am not 5’10”, nor am I rail thin. Unfortunately for me, when I go shopping online, a lot of the clothes that look great on the models don’t transition to “looks great on me”. Facecake.com provided an answer to this conundrum with a simple application that would allow you to see how the clothes, you are about the buy, would actually look on you. How you ask? Using the Kinect, Facecake’s Swivel application will scan your body and measure out how the outfit would look and fit on you. At the Microsoft booth, they were demonstrating different clothes from Nordstroms.com.
The technology is nowhere near perfect, but it’s a great idea and a great start. Swivel not only puts the variety of clothes on virtual you, but will place you in different locations on your screen. The technology will probably only work with clothing companies that are willing to take various angles of their products, but doing so would probably lead to a jump in online sales. Shopping online is the future and it’s about time the fashion industry take notice!

I’d definitely shop with this.
