Excited for Twisted Metal on the PS3? You should be: the game is being directed by David Jaffe of God of War fame, who also worked on the original two Twisted Metals for PS1. If that pedigree isn’t enough to get you excited about Sony’s upcoming vehicular based-combat game, the new Twisted Metal will also include a download code for a PSN copy of Twisted Metal Black — one of the PS2’s first genuinely good games dating from way back in 2001, and generally considered one of the better entries in the series.
Twisted Metal was one of Sony’s flagship first-party franchises during the PS1 era, but after the lackluster Twisted Metal 3 and 4, the series quickly faded from prominence. Twisted Metal Black was an earlier release for the PS2, but despite being over 10 years old at this point, it’s still one of the PS2’s best games, and it marked a return to form for the series that the upcoming PS3 Twisted Metal will hopefully emulate.
Though Jaffe did stipulate that the download code would only be included in new copies of the Limited Edition version of the game, I applaud Sony for including a genuinely worthwhile bonus in with new copies of the games, rather than putting in a download code that limits access to online play like they did with Resistance 3, and other publishers continue to do.
