The first details and pictures of Tecmo’s latest entry into the popular (citation needed) Dead or Alive series were revealed today, thanks to Japanese gaming mag Famitsu. The upcoming fighter is currently 15% complete, and Tecmo’s Team Ninja hopes to have the game out for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 some time in 2012.
According to early reports, the game will utilize a new “Power Blow” fighting system, though no details regarding the specifics of this new system were revealed. DoA veterans Ryu Hayabusa, Hayate, Hitomi, and Ayane are the only characters revealed so far, but given that the DoA line-up hasn’t really changed much over the years, I think we can expect most of the characters from DoA4 to return.
It’s worth noting that this is the first “main” entry into the DoA series to be made without the direction of DoA creator Tomonobu Itagaki, who left Tecmo in 2008 after a pay dispute with the company’s management. Since his departure, Team Ninja has developed Metroid: Other M for the Wii and Dead or Alive Dimensions (a sort of compilation fighter that combines elements of the first 4 DoA’s) for 3DS, both of which received a mildly positive reception from critics.

As long as Ayane is playable, I go crazy for purple hair.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if she’s an albino who dyes her hair.
