Joining the ranks of Assassin’s Creed and Bioshock, THQ is bundling a free copy of an old game with the PS3 version of Saints Row: The Third. By redeeming the online pass included in new copies of the game, players will get access to a free download of a complete copy of Saints Row 2, so if you somehow manage to finish The Third’s dildo-swinging, hoverbike riding adventure quickly, you can now go back and play through The Third’s still good predecessor for the low, low price of free.
THQ originally promised that the PS3 version would have exclusive content, but fans who purchased the game on launch yesterday noticed that all the versions of the game were identical in terms of content. This new generous offer by THQ seems like a quick response to fix that gaffe, but regardless of their motivation, who can complain about getting a game for free? It’s worth noting that Assassin’s Creed: Revelations on PS3 also includes a free copy of the original Assassin’s Creed, and next year’s Bioshock Infinite will also include a free copy of the original Bioshock, so this bonus Saints Row game seems to be part of a concerted effort by third parties and Sony to try to motivate people to buy the PS3 versions over their 360 counterparts.

Now THAT is generosity. And doing it right.
