You’d think that a cartoon starring giant robots who transform into cars would be easy to make into a video game, but history says otherwise: despite combining two of the most awesome things you could put into a game (giant robots and fast cars,) most games based on the Transformers franchise have sucked. They sucked so bad that they almost make the terrible Michael Bay Transformers movies look good by comparison. Almost. There was one exception though: High Moon Studio’s Transformers: War for Cybertron, a game which was so good it balanced out the nearly 20 years of terrible Transformers games that came before it (and after it.) Now that seminal game is finally getting a sequel.
The sequel, subtitled “Fall of Cybertron” is once again being developed by the same team as the original, and picks up where the original game left off, with the Autobots rushing to evacuate their remaining forces off of their dying home planet of Cybertron. Not much else is known about the game other than the teaser art released by Game Informer today, which shows off Optimus Prime’s new redesign, the appearance of fan favorite Dinobot leader Grimlock, and a shot of a possibly dead Bumblebee, which Game Informer says is a hint of the new game’s “darker tone.”
More info about the new game will be in unveiled when Game Informer’s November issue hits the newsstands, and that same info will probably make a totally non-plagiarised appearance on this blog once I get my copy of the issue.
