Square Enix, the biggest RPG games company in Japan, has recently announced their pricing plan for PS Vita games through the Army Corps of Hell Twitter account. The game will cost ¥4,980($60 USD) for the boxed version and ¥3,990($50 USD) for the downloadable edition. This likely reflects the cost of other titles to be released on the handheld.
Now, it is known that SE charge more for their games, usually called the Square Enix tax, though this game does not seem to suffer from it. Their other title Disgaea 3 Return does not escape this fate as it will launch at the price point of ¥6,090($80 USD), which seems a bit steep for a portable game.
These prices may not be an accurate representation of the North American pricing as Japanese gamers generally pay more for their games in general, but this does provide an interesting detail–downloadable games will be cheaper. This is great news for tight-walleted gamers who don’t mind not physically owning a copy of a game. Though this practice has become common on PC, charging less for downloadable games, it has yet to really become common on consoles, portable or not.
I suspect that we PS Vita games won’t be much cheaper than $60 in North America for most boxed, AAA titles. What are you willing to pay?

Actually, NISA is the publishing branch of NIS, so you’re both wrong, it’s made by Nippon Ichi Software.
