Dark Souls doesn’t have a mandatory Install Size

Dark Souls doesn’t have a mandatory Install Size

Rian Quenlin 25 Sep

Space on the PS3 is limited, especially if you have a lot of games that allow for installing, and some developers have a mandatory install which, though heavily justified at times, grates on the nerves of multiple gamers as they climb higher while PC gamers roll their eyes and tell them to quit whining. Dark Souls however will not have a mandatory install.

If you are deciding what console to get Dark Souls on and were leaning away from the PS3 because of the install size issue, you don’t have to worry about it since it’s not an issue at all. Even without an installation Dark Souls plays smoothly at a good speed with minimal problems that would be expected in a game with such significant graphical and AI power at its backend.

Now, your only decision on what console to get Dark Souls for is based on what controller you like best at this point, even though I’m a Sony lover I do feel that this game will play much better on the XBox 360 than the PS3. If this isn’t why you’re on the fence about getting it or not, Famitsu who are absolutely brutal in their reviews gave it an excellent score of 37 out of 40, remarking on how much it improved over Demon Souls. It will be published by Namco-Bandai in the US and Europe in the first week of October.

How will it play better on Xbox? Slower hardware and it was developed on ps3 first and optimized. Plus you’ll trod before putting the hours necessary to get halfway through the game :p

When I said “Play” I meant controlling, if I talk about overall smoothness I say “performance.”. I just feel the 360 controller works better for the Souls series than the PS3 controller.

I would say it would be better played on the 360 only if you don’t plan on installing it to your PS3 HDD as Blu-ray disc read speed is far slower than DVD’s.
Also the RROD doesn’t exist anymore, that has been fixed four Xbox revisions ago.

I loved demon’s souls, but I bought dark souls for 360 for A: the controller and B: the achievments. And I have a launch 360 and its never red ringed on me. My ps3 did give me the yellow light of death tho. Oh the irony.
