There is a lot of heat going on with Battlefield 3 right now, with all the publicity it is getting, bits of news ever day, and the various issues involved with each platform. Here is something to help you clear up the mess and figure out “what is what” with all of this fuss going on about which platform gamers should be getting Battlefield 3.
First off, a little summary, Battlefield 3 will be available in stores all around America on October 25, this goes for the PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions. The catch, PC has the smoothest gameplay and the best graphics, PS3 get the first DLC, while Xbox 360 has – well it has what is has – being the Xbox 360.
PC
The PC version will boast the best parts – graphics, gameplay, community, features, extras, and everything else you can think about in a PC. Downside is it’s just not a console – it’s a PC. Games or Gaming in general, on the PC has a lot of downsides. Biggest one is that it does not have the robust online support as that of the consoles. However, in the issues of Battlefield 3, it poses the aspects that every gamer lives for – Graphics and Gameplay.
On the other hand, it comes with a catch. In order for PC gamers to enjoy the smoothest gameplay and the best graphics that Battlefield 3 can offer, they need to have the required specs – this is where it gets confusing. It makes no sense to upgrade your hardware, spend hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars just for the reason of being able to play a single game. Though there are various sides to that argument, but at the moment, it is only about Battlefield 3.
The Consoles
The tugging would then fall on the two gaming consoles, the PS3 or the Xbox 360 – which one would it be? Well, the PS3 will have a week head start on access to the game’s DLC packs and other extras first. The Xbox 360, having the more popular online service that it has – well, it has that to boast. The decision would then fall to which console you have, or which one you are more comfortable playing with. Both consoles have different things it can boast, but what lies beyond it, is that consoles are definitely better for online gameplay compared to the PC – which is what Battlefield 3 is all about; it is all about online gameplay. Hence, the 64 player game mode it has and the variety of other new online game modes.
However, both consoles fall in graphics and gameplay, it has not been a secret to the limitations of both consoles to run Battlefield 3; it only runs somewhere in the field of 30 – 40 Frames per Second. Now for hardcore gamers, 30 FPS is not fun at all, especially with a quality first person shooter. Console gamers might just have to suck this in and get used to it, and maybe wait for the next generation consoles to be available because now, it seems that consoles are being left behind with the latest improvements with new video games.
For someone who has a Gaming PC and an Xbox, I will probably get Battlefield 3 on the PC. Not to be disrespectful to Xbox, but I am more of a PC fan rather than the latter, but it all falls into choice. If you’re an Xbox gamer and only have an Xbox, then would you really have a choice?; And if you do have both consoles, then it’s a choice of comfort and which community you are more accustomed to. While, if you have a PC and one of the consoles, like my situation, it falls into which one you are most likely to play on.

Seriously? PC has the best online community and is the only playable platform that has dedicated servers with admins who can kick Hacks/Rude players. I laughed every time you said otherwise

Hmm, how exactly is the online bad in PC gaming? I used to play online with BF2 and it was amazing, especially custom modded maps which you won’t find on console versions. Plus for FPS, you aren’t going to find any better “controller” then with the precision of a mouse and keyboard.. Also, chances are if you are a PC gamer then you will have a good enough machine to run the game as is (aside from the graphics card maybe) but that would be a standard upgrade.

I did say community as a plus for PC, I was thinking more on the side of support, PC does not have something on the level of PSN or Xbox live. Well, we do have windows live, but not all games are utilizing it plus it sucks. I do agree, the keyboard and mouse is the better controller for FPS games. No doubt! System wise, I was edging towards having a system that can really run the game at its highest, since that’s the only advantage the PC has, and if you get contented with running it on low setting or on low fps, then you would just par with the consoles.

The players make the community, not the games. Look at TF, peeps are pretty chill. Then League of Legends, racist bastards the lot of them and the admins REFUSE to moderate the racism and bigotry and have a rule against calling people out. It’s like they encourage a bad community. Oh wait, they do.

“PC does not have something on the level of PSN or Xbox live.”
I agree, it is on a much higher level then those services. As both Xbox Live and PSN are no more reliable than dedicated servers but they do limit your ability to choose a server at all, which is a huge downside considering the douchebaggery that goes on those services.
It is no question that PC will always be the best option, so long as your rig is good enough.
Rian Quenlin
PC gamers have a thousand times more flexibility than consoles that’s for sure, modding a console game is bordering on impossible but a PC game with a good engine has so many mods to it you’ll be playing fresh content for years.

Ohh Well, Yeah.. PC Wins! I was routing for the PC anyway. Had to find something negative to say about it – just for the argument – turns out, nothing is. Well, aside from the demand to keep up with your rig, electricity bills, and other technical stuff, gameplay, graphics, and community wise (at least for BF3) PC is the stand out. It already got me with ultra graphic settings… I’m a whore for visuals.

Now I have no idea what you are talking about. The PC wins in every instance. Punkbuster, custom maps for free, dedicated servers, less ignorant screaming 12 year olds. Also 64 players at once, not 24 players but 64. Truly free online play better stat tracking, total clan support. The list goes on and on, I have purchased this for both PC and my 360. One copy to obviously run hardcore on max settings with the superior user interface ie…. mouse and keyboard. The other copy is for bedroom use and living room use. I have in my living room a 55 inch Samsung LED series 8 3d TV. I also have a 46 inch Samsung LED series 6420 Smart TV for the bedroom. Sometimes you got to play on a lazyboy or a bed. I do also have a PS3 but I would rather saw my arms off than use the controller for a multiplatform fps. Plus I have lots of friends on Live and 5 friends on the PSN. One last thing if you are planning on getting this for the 360 only, you better have a hard drive, I can’t imagine playing anything in standard.

My laptop is a 1.8ghz with 1GB of ram, if you think this can run any modern game you are sorely mistaken and I lack the funds up upgrade it, so I’m more likely to go straight for the console version.
I do agree with the whiny 12 year olds, however. More servers need to make rules against “whining”.
Chris Hernandez
Rian, who were you replying to in regards to your PC being able to run the game, as I don’t see anyone talking about every PC being able to run the game…
Rian Quenlin
To Sinn, when he was mentioning PC winning in every instance. One thing that a console never has is compatibility issues because they’re all identical for the most part barring HD sizes. I hit reply too early.
