Ni No Kuni (sometimes referred to by it’s awkward Engrish subtitle “The Another World,”) is getting an official English release, according to Gamespot Asia. In a press conference held during this week’s Tokyo Game Show, Level 5 President Akihiro Hino formally announced that the highly anticipated game, which Kotaku recently labelled “the prettiest game on the PS3,” would be released in North America sometime during the first quarter of 2012.
The game is a collaboration between Hino’s Level 5 (creators of the Prof. Layton series, White Knight Chronicles, and Dark Cloud,) and acclaimed animation director Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli (best known for movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Nausicaa,) and has been marketed as a dream project of sorts, combining Studio Ghibli’s acclaimed animation techniques and story telling with Level 5’s RPG expertise and technical know-how.
Hino’s announcement only concerned the PS3 version of the game; the DS version, which differs in both style and gameplay, was released earlier this year in Japan, and no comment has been made regarding whether or not that game will also be heading to the U.S.
