Sonic Generations Genesis Era trailer released

Sonic Generations Genesis Era trailer released

Rian Quenlin 15 Sep

The upcoming Sonic Generations got a trailer that shows off new zones from the Genesis era. This confirms the existence of the following zones: Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1, Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2, and Sky Sanctuary Zone from Sonic and Knuckles. Also shown is a brief appearance of Metal Sonic who was the Sky Sanctuary Zone boss and a boss in Sonic CD. Video after the jump.

I actually hope that the Lava Reef zone is in this simply because it’s my favorite stage overall. Sonic games in the Genesis era have around half a dozen distinctive zones on average all of varying popularity, most of the popularity directed at the soundtrack for the specific zone. How many Zones there will be altogether remains to be seen, but here’s a list of the confirmed games and their sources for the PS2 and 3DS version thus far

Green Hill Zone – Sonic the Hedgehog
Chemical Plant – Sonic 2
Sky Sanctuary – Sonic and Knuckles
City Escape – Sonic Adventure 2
Seaside Hill – Sonic Heroes
Rooftop Run – Sonic Unleashed

And for the 3DS version…

Green Hill – Sonic the Hedgehod
Casino Night – Sonic 2
Mushroom Hill – Sonic and Knuckles
Emerald Coast – Sonic Adventure

It might only be one zone from specific games, or two, maybe even three. Either way there aren’t that many Sonic games that have truly iconic or notable stages, so they might run out of them if they go by one stage per game. That seems to be the way it’s going right now, and it’s far too difficult to pick just one stage to be the representative of an entire game.

Sonic Generations is coming out in November, look forward to it. If they have resolved the physics issues that were reported far and wide when the original demo was released, then this could be one of the best Sonic the Hedgehog games of the decade, and it’s only 2011.

Sonic Underground is Western Animation, Sonic X is the anime, but I agree, that was an awesome series.
