A trailer released by Activision has shown a change to the killstreak system for those playing in Support Mode. If you die, it wont be reset. What this means exactly isn’t too clear but I’m interpreting that as you get consecutive kills even if you die. They have also changed their name to Strike Packages.
Killstreaks in MW3 have been renamed to Strike Packages, and you have three of them confirmed as of now and some are not just kill based, but point based, something I brought up in an earlier article. Assault is your standard “Kill them all and call in an airstrike to further humiliate them” gig, nothing too special there. Support though, hoo boy this one is quite the gamechanger.
Activision’s trailer doesn’t explain what support mode is exactly down to the dirt of it, but a caption in the trailer states “Strike Package: Support (Kill Streaks Not Reset After Death)” You can speculate all you want but I can already see the noobs QQing and ragequitting when somebody masters the Support Package. The kill streaks for this particular archetype are Airdrop Trap, Remote Turret, and EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse, a weapon that fries electronics).
In the trailer you can hear a radio saying “Explosive decoy on the way” before dropping a black crate emblazoned with skulls which then explodes. The way I’m reading that is that they just need to get that many kills to unlock the streak, since it is rather ambiguous. This could change the gameplay quite significantly if in effect. Only having to hit a certain number of kills means that players will be far more aggressive which sure beats camping.
Alternatively, this can mean that you retain your killstreak benefits upon death, but other classes lose them. If this is the case then that will really change things. Some guys will be beelining with nothing to lose while someone else stands to lose a chance at summoning in the dogs. Not bad.
Specialist is completely different from the other two strikes. Instead of giving you killsteaks, it gives you more perks, a maximum of 6 from the detault of 3. The killstreak of this at 8 kills however is absolutely fantastic beyond works. If you get that 8th kill, you become an absolute powerhouse as every single perk becomes available to you at once. This strike package is ideal for players who are highly skilled at the game but have a dislike for the killstreak rewards for whatever reason.
