The multiplayer PvP arena game has always lacked in maps and in game modes, but now, League of Legends will be showing off a new game mode at PAX booth #3433 named Dominion.
Players of FPS games will be familiar with territory conquest games where you must capture and defend specific areas on the map in order to rack up points, and this mode is being added to League of Legends. The Dominion mode will be set on Crystal Scar, a new map made for the mode.
The map will have five capture points, and the teams will have their Nexus as usual. However, the Nexus cannot be damaged by the traditional means of sending in a pimped out Master Yi to obliterate it in ten seconds flat. The only way to damage the Nexus will be to capture the points, and defend them from other players.
The video shows brief gameplay of the mode, with champions capturing the control points while protecting it from incoming champions from the enemy team and the minions. This means that you will be playing far more aggressively and assaulting the enemy from every possible angle in order to win. Games in this mode are estimated to last 20 minutes each.
My opinion of this is “That’s very nice Riot but I still quit because of your refusal to sort out the community.” if you’re wondering, but I will admit this will be a far better approach than the normal game modes where it eventually turns into a pissing match of who can do the most damage.
