A few days ago, I saw an image that was a screencap of the /vg/ board on the anonymous imageboard 4chan, saying that people discussing Mega Man were being kicked out by security guards. I almost did an article on it but with 4chan being 4chan, I elected to ignore it as I had heard nothing on any of my other sources for news. Good thing I did, because it was false.
Capcom cleared up rumors that fans of Mega Man were being denied access to the publisher’s booth at Comic-Con. These rumors were being passed around the internet and parroted by everyone who didn’t check the facts. Community Manager Shawn Baxter has cleared up the rumors on the Capcom Unity forums, and said that they were not kicking out fans, and that they are all welcome to visit the booth as would be expected.
It was speculated that the reason behind the (proven false) ejections was to prevent fans who were disappointed by the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3 causing trouble of any kind, but as the issue didn’t happen, this was just wild mass guessing with no backing whatsoever.
Even though Capcom has had a rocky one-two punch of the save data controversy from Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, and the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, I doubt they would go as far to turn against their more dedicated fans. Goes to show you can’t believe everything you read on the internet, especially from an anonymous poster on a widely-frequented videogame board.
