Fans of the Strategy RPG series Disgaea will be glad to know that preorders are now available for all three editions of the fourth incarnation in the bizarre series. The series known for its unorthodox strategy gameplay, unique setting, and awesome characters has awarded it a very significant international following of dedicated fans.
The standard edition includes only the game and a premium edition that comes with a figurine of Fuka, a girl dressed in a prinny-inspired outfit, and a full color artbook with the illustrations of the character designer Takehito Harada. The Premium Figure Edition however takes everything in the previous editions and adds in 9 more figures of Disgaea characters for a grand total of ten, but will cost you $120, but considering what it contains, it’s well worth it.
Not only is Disgaea notable for its large range of characters, but also its very distinctive art style, animations, and its use of beautifully-animated 2D sprites in a 3D world. It’s also known for its incredibly high level cap of 9999, and the ability to boost the powerlevels of your characters to utterly ridiculous levels, even exceeding the ultimate bosses by several folds with enough dilligence. Full completion of a single Disgaea game can clock you a few hundred hours and you will love every minute of it.
I’m going to be springing for the premium figure set even though I don’t have a PS3 yet, because I absolutely love Disgaea, and I’m also a fan of Harada’s art and character designs. Screenshots and a trailer can be viewed on the site I linked.
Two Flonne figures and not one of the adorable mascot Pleinair. Unbelievable.
