Sony Ericsson seems to be failing miserably at its attempts to keep its prized Xperia Duo under cover. The phone, however, promises to be far from a failure, if the recently leaked press shots are to be believed. The phones specifications, although yet to be confirmed by Sony Ericsson, provide evidence that SE has pitted the Xperia Duo head to head with the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Xperia Duo too gets an A9500 NovaThor chipset bundled with Cortex A9 dual cores. The GPU, Mail-400, is also identical to that in the Galaxy S II. However, instead of the Galaxy S II’s clock speed of 1.2 GHz, the Xperia Duo will run at a higher 1.4 GHz. Although improbable, another rumour has the Xperia Duo running with the MSM8260 Snapdragon chipset on board, as seen on HTC’s Sensation.
Sony Ericsson has gone all out to gallop ahead of Samsung’s trump card, the Galaxy S II. Apart from the overclocked processor, the Xperia Duo will also have a larger 4.5 inch qHD screen. Sony will use its coveted Bravia mobile Engine to render stunning visuals on it. SE manages to one-up on the S II’s camera as well, with the Xperia Duo fitted with a 12 MP mammoth snapper. A 2500 mAh battery serves as the icing on the cake.
Pricing and the release date for the Duo have not yet been announced, although Sony Ericsson will tentatively release its official statement in the upcoming few weeks.
