GTA IV Mod will Allow San Andreas map to be played in GTA IV engine

GTA IV Mod will Allow San Andreas map to be played in GTA IV engine

Rian Quenlin 11 Jul

Now this is impressive. A team of modders are adding a map of San Andreas to the list of mods for Grand Theft Auto 4. Meaning you can travel through San Andreas, the largest game world in the GTA series, with the engine of GTA IV.

I don’t know what the rest of you think, but I think the sheer size and scope of San Andreas made it the best game in the GTA series. Where Vice City was several times larger than GTA3, and San Andreas’ sheer size was absolutely overwhelming. Now, someone is (somehow) porting that behemoth to the engine of 4, and it’s looking impressive.

As you can see in the above video which is 20 minutes, a substantial amount of the map has been imported, but still has several bugs, including certain vehicle aspects not working (like the propeller on a plane), and small details like that. However the beta version of the mod when it comes out will have the full San Andreas map available. I’m not sure if that will include indoor areas or what, but playing an old game in an updated engine is always an incredibly impressive thing to behold.

If you forgot the size of San Andreas or don’t know it, I went and found a size comparison picture. I’m not sure how accurate it is in all honesty since I’ve not played the games in years, but I remember comparisons of size making Vice City roughly 1.5 times the size of GTA3 and San Andreas being around 4 times lager than Vice. Sadly I’ve not played GTA IV yet.

I wonder if someone would ever make a Grand Theft Auto Quadrilogy mod that lets you play all the GTA games in the engine and graphics of GTA4 along with content from all the other games.. Such a thing was done for Baldur’s Gate which was an incredible feat with fantastic results, but those games were consecutive. Having motorcycles and helicopters in 3 as well as a freakin’ harrier would be ace though. The link to the thread for the project can be found on the YouTube video’s page.
