Today Konami announced that they would be releasing remastered, HD collections of 3 of their most popular PS2-era franchises: Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders, and Silent Hill, for the PS3 and, in a somewhat surprising announcement, the Xbox 360 as well.
The Metal Gear Collection will include MGS2 and 3, and in a surprise addition, a port of the previously PSP exclusive Peace Walker, and is due out in November. Konami is promising reworked visuals, unlockable artwork, and trophies/achievement support. No details were announced regarding the Zone of the Enders and Silent Hill Collections other than Konami expects to release them some time later in 2012.
These are some of the best games that Konami has ever made and even though I already own all of them on PS2 already, they’re all good enough to warrant a double-dip. There’s been no shortage of HD-ified ports announced recently (see also: Monster Hunter, Resident Evil 4, etc.) so part of me feels like I should be cynical towards these cash-ins, but honestly, when the games being ported are this good, there’s nothing to complain about.
