Based on the dark sci-fi tabletop game setting, the third-person shooter WH40k is going to have a fair length of 12 hours of gameplay on its main campaign. Not very long for a game, but it’s likely to fulfill expectations of what gamers want for their money.
Andy Lang, producer of the Warhammer 40k game has officially announced that the single-player game will be 12 hours for “average” players, where skilled players will probably clear it in under ten. This is incredibly short by today’s standards I believe with most games taking 15-20 hours or more depending on the player. He claims that the game’s difficulty will offer replay value, and suggests that the gameplay will be quality over quantity. The Co-op mode will probably add a few more hours to the game.
In other details of the game itself, the game is directly based on the Space Marines in the Warhammer setting, who are cybernetically-enhanced super soldiers. Picked from the greatest crops on various planets, and outfitted with technology far superior to most fictional races. It has also been said that the game will make very little use of cover, as the extreme power of a Space Marine makes such a tactic a waste of time, and it would be smarter and faster to charge right in and blow the enemy to bits. This is likely the reason for the rather short playtime,
Warhammer 40000: Space Marine is due to be released in August of this year on the 360, PS3, and PC.

I wish more devs would take this approach, that is if it does live up to being more quality over quantity. So many companies now are artificially lengthening their games just so consumers get, seemingly, more for their money.
