Frontier Aja, a Japanese doujin game group (Meaning “independent developer”) has released the 5th version of their current project, Big Bang Beat 2. Based on the turn-based strategy game Daibanchou – Big Bang Age by Alicesoft, Big Bang Beat 2 is a 2D fighting game that can be compared to games like Melty Blood and Guilty Gear.
The current release shows off four playable characters. Rouga Zanma, Kunagi Tenrou, Senna Kyoudou, and Miyazato Erika. All that has been done since the previous demo releases are a few cleanups in the engine, and new characters have been added. Other than that, there’s really nothing notable to talk about, but Frontier Aja do listen to the fans that report bugs and errors.
Unfortunately, even though there are voices for the fights and awesome special effects for the attacks, there is no soundtrack whatsoever. Of course, this is a bare-bones build stripped down to four incomplete characters, but remains playable.
As has come to be expected from Frontier Aja, the game has smooth pixel-based art and fast gameplay. I’m not sure when this will be released for real, but if their previous releases are anything to go by, it will be worth the wait.
