Despite the underwhelming reception of the Xbox launch in the Land of the Rising Sun it seems that the Kinect has beat the odds. The Kinect peripheral has sold 2.1 million units so far, worldwide and has increased media attention while also being on many lists as the must-have holiday item this year. So, it should be little surprise that it has sold over 26,000 units so far in Japan Alone.
Because of this new tech there were also 5,000 more Xbox 360s sold in the Kinects launch week than in the previous week as well, proving that Japanese love their gadgets. Thought it is suspected these higher than expected sales figures will taper off as so few homes in Japan currently own an Xbox 360.
