What’s that you say ‘Y’s Seven was release not but two months ago!’, well you would be correct and perhaps too sceptical for your own good. What you leery folks may not be aware is that this is a PSP remake of a 2005 game by the name of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys in which you again play as Adol Christin and his friend Dogi. It takes place three years after the events of the first two games, starting in Adols’ hometown of Redmont.
To give you and idea of what the gameplay is like in comparison to Y’s Seven I will give you a quote from Tom Lipschultz, localization specialist from XSEED: “Ys SEVEN is to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as Ys: The Oath in Felghana is to Super Metroid, and I really think that’s the best way to explain it. One is a lengthy, chaotic, sprawling experience full of more items and abilities than you could possibly know what to do with; and the other is a much tighter, more streamlined affair, where every single item and ability has a specific purpose and everything fits together like a finely-crafted puzzle. Ultimately, they’re both very different games”
This game also promises to be much harder than what PSP owners have become accustomed to with Seven. Tom goes on to say “I implore ye take heed: Ys SEVEN is arguably one of the easiest games in the series, while Oath in Felghana is almost certainly one of the hardest. If you’re expecting a 1:1 correlation between the four difficulty levels in each game, you’ll become well-acquainted with that Game Over screen, for sure.”
In seems like Y’s fans will be in for quite a treat with this game and though November is soon upon us there is still no exact date set for the release on PSN or UMD. Here are a couple videos of the gameplay to give you a taste.
