Steven Spielberg is known for backing and producing some pretty large entertainment events over the past few generations and apparently Microsoft’s “Kinect” peripheral is being treated with same epic direction. Over 18 months ago Microsoft and Spielberg teamed up to prepare a launch plan that will end up costing over 500 million dollars on a mass marketing global level.
According to the NY post, Kinect this fall in Ad form will grace just about every form of media known to man. Microsoft has gone as far to say that:
“Kinect is the largest, most integrated marketing initiative in Xbox history, bigger than its launch,” said Robert Matthews, general manager of global marketing communications for Xbox. “We are going to be spending millions to launch this globally.”
That is interesting…do you think that Microsoft is going above and beyond previous hardware launches because they are afraid of how the consumer market will adapt to this new device. Or maybe they feel that they have a great product and truly needs this much tender love and care. Either way Kinect is on its way, and if it interests you it can potentially be in your hand in under one months time.
More to come on Kinect in the upcoming weeks as we get closer to launch, this ad campaign does not necessarily surprise me, but Steven Spielberg has made me re evaluate what Kinect really is. Hopefully in the future we can look forward to some interactive/cinematic experiences from the likes of Spielberg. Imagine being able to participate in the movies you watch and not just view them…the future is amongst us gamers!
